Recycle Recycle Recycle
Thursday, June 26, 2008
Did you know that every person throws away approximately four pounds of garbage every day? Doesn’t seem like a lot? Well multiply four pounds of garbage for every person living in this world and the number is astonishing. How can we reduce the amount of garbage filling up our landfills? Recycle, Recycle, Recycle! It is so important to recycle as much of your trash as possible. Items such as paper, aluminum cans, newspaper, and cardboard boxes should never make their way into your trash cans.If your area lacks a recycling program, take the initiative to set-up your own recycling system.

Get this laundry sorter ($69) at www.target.com.

1. Designate an area in your home to set-up your recyclable bins

2. Purchase a couple of storage bins or a linen laundry separator to store your recyclable items

3. Get the information on your local recycling center or dump site.

4. Get into the habit of putting items in your recycling station instead of the trash can.

5. After a week or two (or whenever your recycling center becomes full), take the kids on a trip to your local recycling center.

6. Enjoy your small contribution to a greener earth!!!!

Eco-Project Friday!!! (Make play clay)
Friday, June 13, 2008
I have an interesting and fun project for you this Friday. Who ever knew that dryer lint from the laundry was recyclabe? Well, it most certainly is. Try this clay recipe using the dryer lint from your laundry and be amazed at the results!!

Mix 3 cups of dryer lint, 2 cups of water, and 1 cup of flour in a saucepan. Then add 1/8 teaspoon of vegetable oil. Mix over low heat until mixture is smooth and binds together. Use the clay to create sculptures or use different molds to make different designs. Sit your art piece out to dry for 3-7 days. When completely dry, paint your piece different colors.

Have Fun!!!!

Keep bugs off the Green Way!
Saturday, June 7, 2008
Did you know bug sprays that contain the chemical DEET can cause headaches and severe, long-term health problems? Well now you have a greener alternative. There are a wide variety of plant-based repellents on the market. Of course, if you are traveling to an area where insect-borne diseases are a real threat, the plant-based repellents won't be the best option.

There are several natural active ingredients to look for when trying to keep mosquitoes, ticks, and other biting insect away, especially during outside functions. Look for products containting plant oils, such as citronella, tea tree, marigold, peppermint, and oil of lemon eucalyptus.

Also remember that proper lawn maintenance can keep these pesky critters at bay by eliminating their breeding grounds.

Bugs B Wear uses a citrus-scented oil solution to fill their sterling silver jewelry. This allows you to enjoy being outdoors without rubbing yourself down in bug-spray repellents. The oil is 100% plant derived and consists of a combination of citronella, mint and lemongrass. Visit http://www.bugsbwear.com/ to see what they offer!
